Commonly Asked Questions & FAQ’s

What’s a “Bring a Friend Pass?”

Each membership comes with at least one free pass to bring an additional person with you for  a rental and shuttle at our shop, wednesday night, or other event your membership is good for.  Season pass holders will be provided with a promo code to use for their Bring a Friend Pass.

Whats “daily unlimited” mean?

Season pass holders are welcome to paddle out of our shop in Pottstown once per day for as many days they choose during our rental season and regular operating hours.

Do I get a membership card?

Members don’t get a physical membership card, instead you receive a 5 digit member code that you use every time you sign up for a rental, event, or class.

How do I schedule when I want to go paddling?

For all of our rentals, and events we post them on our website.  You simply go on our website and sign up as usual.  Instead of using a form of payment, you enter your 5 digit member code instead.  Pass holders are still subject to reserving their spot for rentals and events as some events and shuttles can fill up and sell out.

When does the rental season start and end?

Wednesday-Sunday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (close early if last paddler has returned, last shuttle 2:00 pm)
2024 Season May 18th-September 15th
Not open the following exceptions:
June 15th, 16th, and 19th-21st.
Weekday rentals cease after Labor Day.

What happens for rain closures?

On occasion, we do close the shop for rentals if it is raining.  Typically we close if water levels are unsafe, or the conditions are unpleasant enough to warrant closing.  The shop staff reserves the right to choose when rentals will not be availble due to weather or unsafe water levels or conditions.

Can I upgrade my membership if I go for a lower tier at first?

Members can upgrade their pass at anytime.  They simply have to pay the difference between passes and they will be given a new membership number.  Please contact us to do so.

Can I pay with a check or cash?

Want to avoid booking fees?  You are more than welcome to send a check to TIO or pay via cash in person, however please remember that there is still sales tax on memberships.  Please email info@takeitoutdoorsadventures.com and let us know that you would like to pay a different way.

What are Wednesday Paddles?

Beginners and experts alike join us every Wednesday for an evening paddle and to socialize with friends and fellow kayakers.    Wednesday Paddles take place almost every Wednesday night from May through September of each year. They typically start around 6:00 pm and end around 7:30-8:00 pm.   Plus and premium memberships include the cost of the Wednesday rental and shuttle.

What are the Spring Classes being offered to members?

We will be hosting a three part kayak instructional class May 10th, 17th, and 24th.  These classes will build off one another and be a great way for new kayakers to learn, or season kayakers to refresh for the summer season.  All of these classes will be held around Pottstown, with the hopes that the last class would be on the Perkiomen. (water levels dependent)

These classses are included for no extra cost to members

What guided day trips and classes are our rentals passes good for?

Members can access included rentals on any guided day trip, or class offered by TIO.  Some examples would be our Susquehanna Dauphin Narrows trip, pop-up paddles, Spring Thaw on the Upper Schuylkill etc….  Rental are not included for partner events where our partners are hosting registration.  Members still have to pay for the event fee, only the rental portion is included with the membership.
