Multi-Day Trips

Multi-Day Trips

Susquehanna, Middle Section

Join us for an overnighter on the Middle Susquehanna! We will be paddling around 20 miles over both days while exploring all the “mile wide river” has to offer on this section. From “half falls” to countless islands we will weave our way through this beautiful piece of central Pennsylvania on one of the oldest rivers in the world.

This is a “self-supported” style trip, meaning we will pack everything we need to take with us in our kayaks for the trip and set up camp on an island for the night.

Kayak and Packing Details

Packing:
As a general practice for this type of trip with TIO. All of your personal gear (clothing, sleeping bag/pad, and tent) must be able to fit into either the front or back hatch of your kayak.  The remaining hatch would then be used for community gear such as food, cooking equipment and other supplies.  Besides your personal gear, TIO provides all the remaining gear you will need for the trip.  Since this trip is only two days, it’s a lot easier to fit everything compared to longer trips we do.

Boat Requirements:
• Must be 12ft in length
• Must have two hatches for gear storage
• It is not recommended to use a composite boat.
• If you are unsure if your boat would be good for this trip please reach out and ask

Rentals:
We have a couple different model boats that we will be renting for this trip. Dagger Stratos 125’s, 145’s, and our sit on top Prowler 135’s. Please reach out to discuss the pros and cons of each and what would fit you best.

Commonly Asked Questions

Is the gear provided by TIO?

Yes, majority of the gear is provided by Take it Outdoors.  We however do not provide sleeping bags, and other personal gear like reuseable water bottles, a proper rain jacket, or other sepcialty clothing.  Most of our trips are designed so that you simply show up with the needed clothes, hygiene items, and we handle the rest

What if it rains during our trip?

If it rains, we typically make the most of the expereience!  Braving the elements and getting through the challenges that mother nature throughs at us is a great expereince in and of itself.  We do not cancel trips because of rain or inclimenet weather unless high water levels, drastic tempatures or severe weather effect the safety of our participants.

What do I need to pack?

Every trips packing list is different and we provide particpants with these lists by request or upon signing up for each adventure.  Most of our trips are designed so that you simply show up with the needed clothes, hygiene items, and we handle the rest

What’s the tent situation? Am I going to share a tent?

If you sign up for a trip by yourself we assume that you would like to have your own tent, if you sing up with another person we will ask you after signing up what your preference is.

What is primitive camping?

Most of our overnight trips are primitive style camping trips.  When we say this, we mean that there is no running water, bathrooms, or showers available.  We do however pack in a portable toilet system on most of our trips for bagging out our waste.

What’s the food like?

We try to make the most enjoybale menu possible for our guests when we are out on an overnight adventure.  Every trips menu is different and we often survey our guests before each trip to learn some of their preferences to help cater a menu to the whole group.  Our canoe trips have rather extensive menus while on our kayaking and backpacking trips we utilize a lot of freeze dried or creative meals to conserve on the wieght participatns have to carry.

What if I have a particular diet?

We do our best to accomodate different dietary needs and restricitions.  It’s rather common for people who are plant based, gluten free or people who have allergies to participate on our adventures.  Please reach out with your restrictions before signing up to make sure it’s right for you.

How fit do I need to be?

Each of our trips have different fitness level requirements and each desctiption will include the level of fitness needed for each trip.  If you are worried about where you are at or if you have any further questions please reach out to us anytime.
