River Kayaking Basics

August 13 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC-5

Rivers are fun to paddle. The current can make a long day on the water easy, or it can make it very tiring. Propper form and technique can help you enjoy the most a river has to offer. From riding the current to relaxing in an eddy, even safely exploring a sidestream. We will spend an afternoon learning paddle strokes, reading a river and using the current, as well as safety on moving water. We will start by using the area of the schuylkill around riverfront park including the manatawny, then we will do a short river trip to practice the skills just learned. Anyone who is interested in learning new skills or honing existing ones, is welcome to attend. Space will be limited to keep the group to a 1:5 instuctor/student ratio. Cost:$45 With rental: $60

THE SCHUYLKILL CANAL ASSOCIATION NEEDS YOUR HELP
The volunteers of the Schuylkill Canal Association are asking for our help. This Saturday they need some volunteers to help fill sandbags. As a thank you for your help Sly Fox will give a free pint coupon to anyone who volunteers (must be over 21).

The SCA volunteers spend a lot of their personal time, tools and resources to keep the Canal operating...so when they ask for our help we try to do our part in order to keep the canal operating.

This latest project consists of construction of a bulkhead and floating dock at the portage on Schuylkill Canal. This project goal is to eliminate erosion of canal bank and allow safe and easy access to the canal for boaters.

Please email us at doug@takeitoutdoorsadventures.com if you plan on attending.

We plan on meeting at 9:00 a.m. at the Reynolds Dog Park:

Even if you can only give an hour...we appreciate all the help we can get.

Please come out and show your support of the SCA and our beloved Canal Park.

You don't need equipment...Just bring yourself and work clothes. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Please supply us with your email address when you sign up just in case we are meeting at a different spot on the Canal.
